The Town Crier

Donald E. Snavely passed away Sunday, May 9. He was born June 14, 1925, in Youngstown, a son of the late Elmer and Ruth (Jarl) Snavely.

Don was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater aboard the USS Mitchell destroyer escort. He had many interesting stories to tell about his service.

After serving in the Navy, Don graduated from Youngstown College with a degree in engineering.

He was a truck driver and very proud that he drove his entire career accident-free.

He attended Greenford Christian Church, and was a member of Canfield AARP and the American Legion. Don loved nature, especially sunsets and animals.

He is survived by his wife, the former Marian Lenz, whom he married Aug. 21, 1948; two children, Lynn Snavely of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Duke (Jean) Snavely of Columbiana; two granddaughters, Brandi and Gina Snavely; one nephew, several nieces, and very close friends Dean, Daniel, and Drake Gray, Deanna Dunaway, and Polly DeCarlo.

He is preceded in death by a son, Chris Snavely.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel, where a short funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. this evening.

Memorial contributions may be made to something dear to the donor’s heart, in Don’s name.
