Every spring, the girls of The Ohio Gymnastics Institute in Austintown compete in the Lake Erie Amatuer Athletic Union District Championships. This competition makes them eligible to compete in AAU Summer National Championships.

Mackenzie Hammond, a fourth-grader at Hilltop Elementary School earned all five first place finishes at the 2010 LEAAU event. Not only did she beat out the rest of the competition, but she did it decisively with a 2.3 difference in her score and a second place win for all-around. The average difference is usually less than five-tenths. With Machenzie's big win, she qualified for the Age Group Nationals, which takes place in June in Orlando, Fla.
