December 29, 2009
By J.T. Whitehouse
The Boardman Lady Spartans ended 2009 with a win over the Cardinals last week in Canfield. The game was a battle of powerhouses Darryce Moore from Boardman and Canfield’s Jillian Halfhill.

Moore led the Spartans with 16 points on the night to better rival Halfhill, who posted 15. Monica Touvelle contributed with 10 points to bring the Spartans to a 5-1 season.

The Boardman girls have proven their ability on the road with five away games. Their only loss was in week 2 when they were stomped by Hathaway Brown, 59-25. The girls opened their season on Nov. 30 against Cardinal Mooney where they brought in their first big win of 51-24. After that, the girls hit the road to beat Perry, 46-35; Austintown Fitch, 81-30; and Canton McKinley, 54-49. The Lady Spartans have a 4-1 record on the road while holding a 3-0 league record.

The girls now take a break over New Year's and return to action at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at home against GlenOak. This second home game of the season will be the first of five in a row during January. The Spartan girls won’t hit the road again until Jan. 30.
