Checks mark 60th wedding anniversary

A private dinner party was held Nov. 5 at the Austintown home of Bernard and Jeannette Check in celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. Hostesses for the event were Cathy Garstka and Brenda Rose, two of the Checks’ three daughters.


Bernard Check and the former Jeanette Zvara were married Nov. 5, 1949, at St. Brendan’s Church in Youngstown. They are charter members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Austintown.


The couple has three children: Gloria (Bob) Franklin of Cincinnati, Cathy (Steve) Garstka of Austintown and Brenda (Dan) Rose of Poland. The couple also has six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.


Mr. Check served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from the McDonald Works of U.S. Steel in 1976, allowing him and Mrs. Check to concentrate on Check’s Upholstery, the business they have owned for more than 45 years.
