A Mass of Christian burial was held Sept. 18 at St. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Philip Rogers, for Kathryn T. "Kay" Thornton, 92, who passed away Sept. 16 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Boardman.

Mrs. Thornton was born March 5, 1917 in Youngstown, a daughter of Robert I. and Ellen McEvey Kane and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a 1936 graduate of South High School and had worked at G.M. McKelvey Department Store in Youngstown.

Kay was a member of St. Charles, its Ladies Guild, its Over 55 Club and its Garden Club. She was also a charter member of St. Michael Church and its Ladies Guild, of Bishop McFadden Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a charter member and past president of the Boardman AARP #2206. Kay was also a member and past president of Seton Circle.

Her husband, Charles R. "Bud" Thornton, whom she married July 1, 1939, died Oct. 26, 2008.

She leaves two daughters, Cheryl (Dennis "Rusty") Hansen of May, Texas and Rosemarie E. Thornton of Columbus.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Marie Webster, Theresa Perruzzi, Sue Kane and Sister Mary Robert Kane, SSJ, and two brothers, Robert J. Kane and William P. Kane.
