Life's a Beach
August 13, 2009 - Kathleen Palumbo
I'm a beach person. Living in Northeastern Ohio neither changes or inhibits that fact. So when the rare opportunity of my daughter and I having a joint day off presented itself, I declared today mother/daughter beach day and off we went. Beach towels; check. Sunscreen; check. Bob Marley tunes to set the mood; check. Without a shred of sense of direction between the two of us (a genetic discrepancy I unfortunately passed on to her), we set our sights on Geneva State Park.
Armed with directions courtesy of my son, who, fortunately is both directionally gifted and very, very patient with the fact that I am not, we managed to reach our destination uneventfully - a rare occurence. No agenda was planned, needed or followed. We sunbathed, we read, we walked the beach, we people-watched, we talked.
Collaborating schedules, a successful road trip, a foggy dismal morning, changing it's mind to clear, blue skies, all in all, a wonderful, impromptu, memory making day. The kind that just seems better because so little thought and effort went into it.
Half tank of gas - $15. Lakeside lunch - $23. A day at the beach with my daughter - priceless.
