| Winter storm? S'no problem!January 31, 2011 - Kathleen PalumboI stopped at the grocery store today for a loaf of bread. No, NOT because there’s a shocking prediction of the possibility of 1-3 inches of snow for the 60th time since November, but because I truly needed a loaf of bread. Not a parking space to be found, buggies scattered about…abandoned frantically in the midst of a total panic, it was like a scene from a bad natural disaster movie of the week. It never ceases to amaze me that the mere mention of the possibility of a few inches of snow by either local trackers or the Weather Channel’s own Jim Cantore himself sends my fellow Mahoning County residents into a frenzy, as they prepare to “batten down the hatches,” stocking up on food as though they were to be living out of a fruit cellar for the next 30 days. Seriously people – its Northeastern Ohio…and it snows here…frequently! When was the last time you actually, truly RAN OUT of food because you were buried to the windows of your home in snow? I implore you, if you feel threatened, CALM DOWN, make a can of soup and in a day or two the snow will melt. I promise.
