Extreme holiday driving
December 22, 2010 - Kathleen Palumbo
I spent a whopping 1.5 hours running a few last minute holiday errands this afternoon, and can honestly say that I, yes, even mild mannered me, was driven (no pun intended), to fits of provoked road rage. I said words I don’t often say, followed by a few more I made up (sometimes those are the best).
Experience tells me that the situation will only worsen over the next few days, so perhaps we need a few rules of the road (not to mention common courtesy) reminders:
-If the light you’re nearing is red, do you REALLY have to block me in the parking lot from which I’m trying to pull out – YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE ANYWAY!
-Parking lots are not miniature speedways.
-Unless it’s urgent – chat with your BFF after you’ve gotten home. I’m quite certain my life is more important than the conversation you’re having while sharing the road with me.
-When the light is yellow and by advancing through it you will block an intersection (I can’t believe I even have to say this), DON’T GO! You not only cause a deadlock traffic jam, but you look ridiculous in the process.
And to the nice lady who let me enter her lane (trailing the dozen fools who wouldn’t), thank you…I’ll be sure to pass along the courtesy myself.
*When heading out over the next few days, it won’t hurt to have on hand; plenty of tunes, perhaps a few snacks, and a healthy sense of humor either.
