Crazy for fall

October 15, 2010 - Kathleen Palumbo
I’m trying to keep the glass is half full mentality I’m known for, but when this afternoon’s wind gusts sent hundreds of leaves scurrying horizontally past my window, they also triggered a brief flashback of those tall paper yard waste bags, sore achy muscles and several really cranky family members of yesteryear.

No one can possibly be enjoying the crisp fall air, lightweight sweaters and crimson foliage more than I am, but admit it, in a week or two, those same lovely leaves will no longer heartily adorn the numerous trees in our yards, nor will they flutter gracefully to the ground a few at a time. No, they’ll pile up…slowly at first; giving the illusion that keeping up with them is possible.

Then, while you are distracted by the beauty of the season, it happens. Piles and piles of crusty brown decay... slowly...silently taking over your life…each section of your yard becoming a grave to the growing mass of death.

Sorry…I let that flashback get the best of me. Fall is beautiful. Fall is good. I love fall.
