Coach Wolford at the heart of it all

September 29, 2010 - Kathleen Palumbo
Someone recently said to me in regards to YSU’s new head coach, Eric Wolford, “I’m kinda excited about the guy.” This…from the same man who slunk into a several year football depression when Jim Tressel moved on to Ohio State?

After 15 years and four national championships, it’s obvious that Tressel not only had heart, he had gone beyond the fans and won the hearts of the Youngstown community as a whole.

A Youngstown native, it appears Wolford’s heart is in each game as well, it appears he has the respect of his players, and it appears that he enjoys somewhat of an aerobic workout at each game. Not only does he enter the stadium charged for a win, his animated arm wave just screams 'Get up and show these young men you believe in them too!'

With a seemingly zero tolerance policy for the fair weathered fans with a 'Lets see what he and this team are made of' waiting period, I believe Wolford is saying 'They’re our men, that’s our team, and they’re ours to support. Period.'

Don’t worry coach, as someone who has held the same season seats since the stadium was built, I believe the fans will come around quickly. You’re enthusiasm is contagious and we can see you’ve got heart.
