It's only "fair"
September 6, 2010 - Kathleen Palumbo
Today marks the official end of the 164th Canfield Fair, which I frequented for both work and play this year, visiting with local artists, scouts, and 4-H participants to name a few.
Found a few new attractions…the massage booth being a personal favorite. In addition to wondering where they have been for the last 163 years, I found myself wishing that at a dollar a minute, I’d stuck an extra five in my pocket, because the first five were sooooo worth it.
Strouss malts. Nothing more needs to be said.
Feed a butterfly – who knew? And my annual can’t visit the fair without doing it activity? People watching. I remember my grandpa doing it when I was little…finding him content to sit at the big rock taking in the crowd. Now I get it.
The piece de resistance…being the guest of my son, whose fateful meeting with none other than Dierks Bentley himself on Sunday that scored us two “wow, are these really our seats,” tickets to that evenings concert.
It’s not every day I get time alone with my nearly 21 year-old son. Dierks Bentley…what a kind and generous man, and to my son, who's still willing to hang with me...thank you, thank you, thank you!
How did the fair treat you?
