A great day to be me

May 8^th is my birthday.  I’m not shy about it, nor am I concerned, regretful, or blasé. Quite the contrary, I see it as my own personal little holiday. 

 

Although I do harbor wonderful (albeit somewhat distant) memories of those milestone birthdays of youth; 16, 18, 21, I’m no longer striving to attain anything more than even more time amongst those who mean the most to me.

 

I’ve always found it intriguing how differently people handle their birthday, as I have friends who celebrate wildly no matter the number, while others grieve as though it’s time to start sketching out the old epitaph. 

 

Age to me is not about the number, but the stories behind it, the personal connections made, the lessons learned, and the realization that it’s never too late to start something new. 

 

All I know for certain is that if I have anything to say about it, the next chapter in the book of my life, is going to be a bestseller. It may take me a while to author it, but that’s the fun part.
