Town Crier Newspapers Correspondent

My Mind Runneth Over

Thanks for sharing

As 2009 comes to a close, I encourage you to take a few moments to focus on all that is good in your life.  With economic times certainly difficult, and our lives busier than ever, it's sometimes easy  to become so focused on the big picture, that we let little milestones slip by virtually unnoticed.

Having completed my first year as a correspondent for the Town Crier Newspapers in September, I feel fortunate for the experience. It is truly a pleasure writing for a publication which seeks out the good in the communities which it represents, reminding us of the joy in the simple pleasures of day to day life.

From the stories of local school aged children who brought out the best in themselves, to those who strive to make a difference in the world around them; from the community members who give of themselves freely, to the events that bring those very people together with friends and family; from the birth of triplets to the accomplished centenarian with so very much to share, the stories warmed my heart.

So when you make your resolutions this New Year, make one to look back on 2009 and your own private little milestones. Whether they made you laugh or cry, those very experiences shaped your year and your life, so celebrate them, “Town Crier style.”

Happy New Year to you and yours.

Because my New Year's resolution of dieting will only last until Super Bowl Sunday, I propose that everyone including myself live by the old adage "treat others the way you would like them to treat you." We should all try to find the good in others rather than focusing on what we don't like about each other, As the late great columnist Sydney Harris once quipped "Although we allow ourselves the luxury of disliking whomever we please, it always comes as as unpleasant surprise to learn of someone who dislikes us." Happy 2010 to all.

So true... brings to mind mind a very insightful quote by Abraham Lincoln: "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.

How true! How true! We often get tangled in the web of society that we forget the odor of the rose, let alone stopping to smell it. It's the little things that really have value. Watching a garden grow, observing the splendor of nature, and finding the good in our fellow human beings of all colors. It all adds up to something we call life.
