To Shop or Not to Shop...
December 6, 2009 - Kathleen Palumbo
While usually the queen of all things Christmas, I’ve been feeling overly stressed and under the weather, leaving one 24 hour period of “retail-mania” to have taken its toll on me.
My day included a few main frustrations:
-Stores that stock considerably less than what would meet the consumer’s needs at the obvious time. The general public just might find themselves in need of a string of 50 white lights three weeks before Christmas. Apparently that’s asking too much.
-While I’m sure the Simpson’s Chia Pet is a hot commodity, I would have really appreciated it if the local electronics store actually had in stock the cell phone they had on display as a featured item. I’m just saying…after two hours of shopping around and finally deciding on one, it would have been nice to have not been informed, “Call back on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, when one of our trucks might or might not have delivered some.”
-I’m “old school” customer service. While I’d usually rather shop unbothered, when I do take the time to ask for assistance, I don’t want to hear an employee point to an unmarked area seventeen isles away and mutter “it’s right over there.”
I promise that within a few days my usual demeanor will return, I’ll don my Santa hat, play Christmas carols, and lose the “scrooge” attitude. But until then, if you find yourself joining in the seasonal peeves, feel free to share.
