Gorant Lovers Unite!
November 12, 2009 - Kathleen Palumbo
Having spent most of my life in the area, Gorant chocolate has been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember.
Each Christmas day, my nana would arrive carrying a five pound box to share, and as my mom’s first job was working for the Gorant family, she taught us to identify as many of the fillings by the markings on them as she could recall. On occasion, we (ok, I) couldn’t stand the suspense, and would sometimes (ok, often) poke a hole in the bottom to end the cliff-hanger and find my favorites.
Over the years, my lust for the confection hasn’t diminished, and I found myself clearly concerned when several of our local branches closed last year. When desperate times call for desperate measures, I will on occasion settle for other chocolate. But when only the best will do…well, you know.
A friend recently asked me “What is it about chocolate…” In a nutshell, I believe that; Gorant’s chocolate should in fact be a food group (see illustration), diamonds may be forever, but Gorant’s chocolate provides a quicker, more economical euphoria, and that on the seventh day, God said go forth…and treat yourself to a piece of Gorant’s chocolate!
I won't judge, so go ahead and share your guilty chocolate pleasure!
